there’s a killer on the moon

you are sitting in the dentist’s chair. they are drilling a hole into your tooth. fingers in your mouth and the sensation reminds you of something.

you are sitting in a chair beside your counsellor at school. you are nervous. you are telling them about what you like to do and about how there’s a game you like to play. it’s a game hosted on a website called killer-on-the-moon dot com. the game is pretty simple.

you’re a killer on the moon. you’re walking across its landscape. a rock that has been blasted by the extremity of local space for billions of years. no atmosphere and all across craters and a silicon dust that clings, desperate, to every surface it touches. you have an axe. and the goal is to kill anyone you see. but you see nobody.

it’s a game that you know has a screamer in it. you play for more than an alloted time, randomly set at the beginning of the game and the ambience is disturbed by a sudden loud noise and an image of a zombie, in front of the game’s UI. the game is designed to be played once, passed around. but you have a fixation on the part before the scream. and you start playing it over and over in order to interface in the world of possibility. the simulation of the moon and its killer inhabitant before the screamer hits.

you got scared. the first time. but now it just annoys you when you play long enough to be disturbed.

and your counsellor says that’s interesting and asks if you play any games with other people at the school. you don’t.

and your dentist says you need to pay for a root canal treatment. and maybe a crown. and the killer on the moon. the killer on the moon. the killer on the moon. the killer on the moon.

and the killer on the moon. the killer on the moon. the killer on the moon. the killer on the moon. and the killer on the moon. there’s a killer on the moon.
